IQ Quiz: Six Logic Puzzles with Explained Answers

Try six short reasoning puzzles below. Each answer includes a worked explanation, so you can check the rule you used, not just count correct guesses. This is an untimed practice game for entertainment; it does not measure IQ, diagnose ability or compare you with a population.

How this practice quiz works

Choose one answer for each puzzle, then select “Check my answers”. You receive one point per correct answer, out of six. There is no speed bonus, penalty or conversion to an IQ number. Answers are checked in this page: this practice form does not send your selections to our server. The site’s general privacy and cookie policies still apply.

1. Number pattern

Which number comes next: 4, 7, 11, 16, …?

Correct answer: 22 The gaps are +3, +4 and +5. Continuing with a gap of +6 gives 16 + 6 = 22. A short sequence can fit many rules; this puzzle uses consecutive increasing gaps.

2. Using a rule

Every card in a box is blue. Mina takes a card from that box. What must be true?

Correct answer: The card is blue. The rule applies to every card in this box, so it applies to the one Mina takes. Nothing in the statement tells us its shape, who owns other cards, or how many Mina has.

3. Order matters

Ada is ahead of Ben in a queue. Cem is behind Ben. Who is in the middle of these three?

Correct answer: Ben The stated order is Ada, Ben, Cem. Ben is between the other two. We do not need to know where any other people stand.

4. Alternating pattern

Continue the pattern: circle, square, square, circle, square, square, …

Correct answer: circle The repeating group is circle, square, square. Two complete groups are shown, so the next group begins with a circle.

5. Working backwards

A number is doubled, then 5 is added. The result is 23. What was the original number?

Correct answer: 9 Undo the operations in reverse order: 23 − 5 = 18, then 18 ÷ 2 = 9. Check forwards: 9 × 2 + 5 = 23.

6. What the information allows

Some green tokens are wooden. All wooden tokens are light. Which statement must be true?

Correct answer: Some green tokens are light. The green tokens that are wooden must also be light. That proves some green tokens are light, but says nothing about green tokens made from other materials.

Using your results

A missed puzzle is a place to inspect your reasoning. For the number sequence, write the differences between adjacent terms. For the queue, sketch three positions. For the final question, separate “some” from “all”: changing that single word changes what the statement proves. Try explaining the rule aloud before looking at an answer. If you retry after seeing the explanations, your new score includes familiarity with these questions; it is not evidence that your intelligence changed.

What an online IQ quiz can and cannot tell you

These six items were written as a small practice set for this site. They have not been standardized, normed by age or validated as a psychological assessment. A score of 6/6 means that you selected the intended answer to these six items. It does not mean “genius”, and 2/6 does not mean low intelligence. Reading language, distraction and whether you have seen a puzzle before can affect a result. Do not use this game for school placement, hiring or health decisions.
